Here is a little food waste-saving tip for you. Certain foods you wouldn’t expect are great for freezing. Avocados can be sliced in half and placed in an airtight container to freeze after the seed has been removed. If you have excess coffee, instead of pouring it down the drain, pour it into an ice cube tray and freeze it. Then store the cubes in an airtight, freezer-safe container. Later, they can be thawed to use for baking or to enhance iced coffee. You can also freeze fresh herbs such as parsley and cilantro after finely chopping them up, or they can be added to an ice cube tray along with olive oil to freeze. This is the same for fresh ginger. Fresh basil, however, will need to be blanched for a minute prior to chopping and freezing. Mashed potatoes are great for freezing, and whole potatoes can also be frozen after they’ve been boiled for five minutes. Just take them out of the freezer and set them in a baking pan to roast when you need them.
